about

whoops!!:
a commentary on what i’ve experienced with creative output. i feel like often my ideas and my art aren’t appreciated, and most people let that discourage them from continuing to create. with everything i’ve had to experience in the last year, everyone is lucky i’ve even made anything. it’s rough to spend so much time on something just to have it thrown back in your face. everyone telling you to just stay in the shell, it forces you to try to head down roads that aren’t suited for what you want to do. it’s demoralizing.

+(um):
a look at the digital culture we live in, focused on dopamine rushes, likes and dislikes, etc. the dichotomy of how easy it is for some people to become famous, all for the wrong reasons. it’s a game that continues and shifts and i’m sure will continue forever. again, this isn’t a commentary on the “evils” of social media, it’s a satirical look at the attitudes present in many people. it’s a goal in some ways.

fractal sun:
just a good ol’ jam. a silly suggestion to gatekeep my music, which taken seriously or not, will probably happen anyway.

obsolete technologies:
on the surface, this song is about a fictional relationship. an ending with no closure, the mixed signals, the reminders of what once was. below the surface, the song is a conflict of the self. a tear between what you know is true and those trying to convince you otherwise. it’s a documentation of the dissolution of the internal compass. the uncertain battle between the two minds.

no stranger:
this is a song about the back and forth of manipulation. falling for traps knowingly or unknowingly, ultimately ignoring the signs and red flags just because it’s something to do. 1 and 2. back and forth. male and female. round and round we go.

canopy concerto:
while this song doesn’t have lyrics, it still means something to me. it’s a tribute of sorts to the donkey kong country games, which i played extensively as a young child. they shaped me in some ways, so i’m happy to have made something that sounds like it would fit so well with those songs.

results may vary:
this song is about people i know who have gained recognition or favor in ways that are entirely undeserved. the song is split into two perspectives. the old friend and the BIG star. the old friend mocks the BIG star for what they’ve become, and expresses their disdain for the BIG star’s lifestyle. the BIG star, however only doubles down and continues down the path, reaping the rewards of his ill-gotten status. the BIG star taunts the old friend in suggesting “maybe you could do the same, but results may vary.”

breathing:
this is a moment of calm, of serenity.

cornlife:
as far as meaning goes, this is a song about a guy who’s obsessed with corn. end of story. there’s no secret meaning, no playing the song backward, just corn. the instrumentation and arrangement of the second half of this song is one of my favorite bits of the album.

fountains of youth / where do they come for me?:
i guess a lot of my songs have some kind of purgatorial element to them- list- i think some of that comes from a conceptual fascination with that idea of being stuck in one place between good and evil, heaven and hell, having no escape or way out, but it’s not something i really ever think about outside of when i’m thinking up lyrics. i think it’s on some level an exploration of that purgatory but i think it’s also the idea that songs in themselves are what they are, they repeat, they can end, but then they start again. i subconsciously place characters in these prisons and put them on conceptual display for all to see- that’s purgatorial in a way.

foundation:
a song about having to bow to people who shouldn’t be in power. having employers break you down and change who you are just to make themselves look good. having the insecurities of the leaders directly affect you. the idea that even though they may try to break me, i can’t lose who and what i’ve made myself to be.

waiting for me:
another moment of refuge, a safe place to stay. the question of if someone is out there waiting, and the beautiful instrumental. are things meant to be or are they made to be?

get home safe:
a song that checks up on an old friend. always being there for someone, worried but not scared.

pain:
crushing. death, regret, loss, loneliness, will i always comfort you? will you change, lose your love?

thank you for listening. spread the word. make it possible for me to make more of this.
